How to Get a Real Estate License

In order to be licensed as a Real Estate Salesperson by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission (the “REC” or the “Real Estate Commission”), a prospective candidate must (among other requirements):

● Be over 18 years of age, have the equivalent of a high school education and legally reside in the United States;

● Complete a 75 hour Real Estate Salesperson Pre-license Course;

● Pass a state real estate exam required by the Real Estate Commission;

● Answer a series of prescreening questions intended to satisfy the REC of the candidate’s honesty, trustworthiness and integrity;

● Submit to a criminal background check and fingerprinting;

● Gain sponsorship by a New Jersey licensed real estate broker, and

·● Submit an application to the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.

License candidates have one year from the date on their Course Completion Certificate to complete fingerprinting, gain broker sponsorship and submit a license application to the NJ REC. Failure to file an application within one year will require retaking the pre-license course, including the school exam and retaking the state real estate exam.

Why Consider Real Estate Sales?

Unlimited Financial Opportunity. There were approximately 7,900 single family residential real estate sales in Monmouth County, New Jersey in 2019. This sales activity generated over $400 million in commissions for real estate brokers and salespersons involved. Likewise, the surrounding areas are very active markets with tremendous opportunity for licensed real estate professionals.

Technology Driven Change. Today's real estate markets are rapidly being transformed by technological change that is upending referral patterns and the way the real estate business is being conducted. This creates opportunity for creative real estate licensees to capture their fair share of this reallocation of market economics.

Rewarding New Career Challenge. The rewards of real estate sales go way beyond economic opportunity. Real estate sales involves the largest financial asset of most families. The skilled handling of a real estate sale is both important and satisfying. Real estate sales offers flexible hours and the need to exercise creativity in solving marketing and business challenges. It is an interesting, fast paced and richly satisfying career opportunity.

Olga Orak - President, School Director and Head Instructor

From the moment I entered the world of real estate, almost two decades ago, I’ve been enthusiastic and passionate about what it takes to succeed in this business.

My success over the years, coupled with the skills and sphere of influence that I’ve developed, has resulted in some great accomplishments. But none of these accomplishments are as important to me as those of the agents whose careers I had the pleasure of helping start.

Many of these agents have gone on to become massively successful and pave their own path towards their goals in the real estate business, and many have continued to work with me throughout their whole careers.

My goal is to impart as much knowledge, wisdom and guidance as I can on my students in order to help them be best positioned to not only obtain a real estate license, but also achieve the success that they desire in the real estate business as a whole.
